And When the Day of Pentecost Had Come …

May 31, 2017

The Great Fifty Days of Easter reaches its conclusion with the arrival of Pentecost Sunday, June 4, 2017. We invite you to wear “red” in some form this coming Sunday to remember the “tongues as of fire” that came to rest on the followers of Jesus on the first Pentecost following Jesus’ resurrection.

Pentecost celebrates the gift of the Holy Spirit and the birth of the church. On this day in the Christian Year we remember how the church was empowered by the Spirit to continue the work and teaching of Christ, and today we continue to be empowered by the Holy Spirit to live as Christ’s people in ministry and in mission.

Acts 2:1-21 recounts the first Pentecost, and this text will be the sermon scripture for the day. Read this account during the week, and come on June 4 ready to celebrate the Day of Pentecost.

I’ll see you in church on Sunday.
